Quick answers
Esports sponsorship is a commercial arrangement in which a brand supports a competitive gaming team, event or other organization in return for agreed benefits. Define the assets, permissions, deliverables and evidence before discussing a package. Being part of a competition does not mean you control its broadcast or branding.
Start with an offer your team can deliver and substantiate. Research companies relevant to your content, audience and market, inspect the evidence for the fit, then approach an appropriate business contact. A company appearing in research is a prospect, not a confirmed sponsor or proof of an available budget.
Describe each asset, who controls it, the proposed use and duration, permission evidence, deliverables, price and reporting method. Keep team-owned posts separate from league footage, tournament placements and player appearances that need checking. Record unknown permissions explicitly instead of including them as benefits the sponsor can already buy.
Price the actual deliverables, production, permissions and commercial terms you are offering. There is no single rate this guide can infer from a team's followers or tournament participation. The fee and figures in the worked example are hypothetical planning inputs, not market benchmarks or guaranteed sponsorship income.
Mysocial can support company research and relationship notes, plus available owned-channel context. Confirm publisher, event, player and asset permissions with the relevant parties. An AI response or saved prospect is not legal approval, a signed sponsorship agreement, an official league audience total or an executed payment.
Esports sponsorship is a commercial agreement between a brand and a competitive gaming team, event or other organization for specific benefits. Before pitching, identify what you control, what needs permission and what evidence you can supply. A logo placement, a team video and a tournament broadcast are different assets with different owners.
This guide is for team and event operators, company brands and agencies preparing an offer. Start with the inventory worksheet, check the permission sources, then use the worked activation example. Individual streamers choosing creator programs have a different starting point in our gaming sponsorship guide.
Use the example task below with your own team brief. Connect Mysocial and select it in your assistant first. External brand/contact research requires the relevant paid access and available allowance.
Replace the example with your actual market and permitted offer. The Run buttons open your chosen AI app. Connect and select Mysocial there before using the prompt; copy and paste if needed. If copying is unavailable, select the visible text and copy it manually.
An inventory is a list of specific benefits you could offer, with the evidence needed to make each one credible. Begin with assets your organization actually operates: its own original videos, social posts or website placements. Then identify the other people and organizations involved.
Use this worksheet before writing a package or quoting a price:
| Inventory field | What to record | Your entry |
|---|---|---|
| Asset | The exact channel, format, placement or activity | [Asset and source] |
| Controller | Who can authorize the proposed use: team, player, organizer, publisher or another party | [Holder and contact] |
| Proposed scope | Quantity, format, placement, dates and duration | [Defined scope] |
| Permission evidence | The applicable agreement, policy or written decision, with source and date | [Evidence or unknown] |
| Restrictions | Category limits, existing exclusivity, review requirements or other conditions to resolve | [Limits to check] |
| Available proof | Relevant work or metrics, including unit, reporting window and capture date | [Dated evidence] |
| Status | Ready to discuss, conditional, unavailable or unknown, with a reason | [Status and reason] |
| Decision owner | Who will check the unresolved question and update the record | [Owner and next check] |
Separate control of a channel from control of everything appearing in a video. An original team interview can still contain a player’s appearance, music or a clip supplied by someone else. Owning the account is not a complete permission record for those elements.
A jersey worn at a competition may involve team arrangements and event rules. A broadcast highlight may involve the organizer or publisher. Treat each as a question to verify, not an automatic addition to a sponsor’s package.
“We can discuss two original team interviews” is a specific starting point. “Your logo will appear across the league broadcast” needs a different controller and supporting permission. If you cannot establish that support, leave the broadcast placement out of the confirmed scope.
Keep proposed assets and agreed assets in separate states. A sponsor asking for a placement does not make it available. Record changes when an approval, restriction or competing commitment affects the offer.
Use primary sources for the competition you are discussing. Riot’s VALORANT Developer Portal sets out tournament policies and directs medium events to their regional Riot team. The North American community competition guidelines v1.5 distinguish licence tiers and address trademarks, broadcasting and sponsorship. For example, the medium/major section excludes title sponsors or branded tournaments.
That is a regional community-event example, not a universal esports rule. Do not apply it to every game, country or professional league. Check the policy source and your specific arrangements before presenting an asset as available.
Professional competition can have several layers. The 2026 VCT Official Competition Ruleset, last updated December 18, 2025, explains in sections 1.2–1.4 how participation agreements, global policies, competition rules and event-specific rules relate. It applies to official VCT/League play. A team should identify the documents that apply to its own participation instead of treating one public PDF as every permission it needs.
Put the applicable source beside the asset in your worksheet. When you need a decision from a publisher, organizer, player or other holder, record the question and responsible person. Mysocial or an assistant can help organize the record; the relevant party supplies the decision.
Prepare a small evidence packet for the brand: relevant original work, available audience context and a clear explanation of what was measured. It should let the brand assess the proposed activation rather than guess from a headline follower total.
For each figure, record:
Do not add team, player and league audiences and call the sum unique reach. The same people may appear in several audiences, and you may not hold those organizations’ source data. League-wide figures also do not establish the audience your specific team asset can reach.
For owned YouTube, Instagram or TikTok context available in your Mysocial workspace, a connected assistant can help work with the evidence it can access. Use approved exports or documents for other evidence you hold. This does not add a Twitch connector or supply tournament audiences. Missing figures remain unknown. The campaign report template provides a separate structure for the eventual handover.
Hypothetical planning example: fictional Northline Esports proposes two original YouTube interviews about practice routines and one Instagram announcement. For this example, assume the team has recorded the necessary permissions for those productions and appearances. No official match footage, league logo or tournament placement is included.
The proposed fixed fee is USD 750 for the stated work. That is an invented negotiation input, not a recommended team rate or a figure earned by an actual customer.
| Candidate asset | Example status before offering it |
|---|---|
| Two team-produced interviews | Permission evidence recorded for the fictional example; scope ready to discuss |
| One team-account announcement | Posting and supplied-asset permissions recorded for the fictional example |
| Jersey placement at an external competition | Event/placement conditions unresolved; excluded from the confirmed offer |
| A league broadcast highlight | Commercial reuse permission unknown; excluded from the confirmed offer |
Before accepting the package, agree the formats, required disclosures, publication dates, review steps, permitted reuse and payment arrangements. Use the existing partnership proposal template after the inventory is clear; it handles the broader offered scope, not the publisher’s permission decision.
Make one record per agreed deliverable. Copy these fields for your own plan:
| Evidence field | Your entry |
|---|---|
| Agreed deliverable and owner | [Format, quantity, responsible person] |
| Publication and review dates | [Agreed dates; actual publication when known] |
| Result and unit | [Defined metric; mark missing values unknown] |
| Observation window | [Exact period or post-age window] |
| Source and capture date | [Available post link/export and when captured] |
| Limits and next decision | [Missing data, unresolved work and next action] |
The team and brand choose this fictional plan. Each result is deliberately labeled as an invented example:
| Agreed work | Example observation at review | Evidence and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Interview 1 | Published; 1,200 views in its first seven full days | Fictional YouTube source record with post/window/capture date |
| Interview 2 | Published; 800 views in its first seven full days | Separate fictional record, measured over its own seven-day window |
| Instagram announcement | Not published by the agreed review date | Missing deliverable; no invented result |
Delivery is 2 of 3 agreed items. The two video records sum to 2,000 post views, not 2,000 different viewers or proof of sales. The windows belong to different posts; they are not a single calendar campaign total. Do not calculate an automatic two-thirds payment from delivery count unless the agreed terms specify that treatment.
The review should resolve the missing announcement and record what happens next. Sales, brand lift, click attribution and payment status remain unknown in this example. A sponsorship agreement and two published videos do not provide those results by themselves.
Make the brand’s role understandable in the content. For US-facing endorsements, FTC Disclosures 101 covers financial relationships, video disclosure and periodically repeating disclosure in live streams. Scope the guidance to the relevant campaign and audience; an event licence and an advertising disclosure answer different questions.
Keep required deliverables separate from optional appearances or extra posts. Write down who supplies assets, which claims can be supported, who reviews the work and what permissions the brand needs for reuse. Agree any exclusivity explicitly; a company-research result cannot tell you whether your team is already committed to a competitor.
At handover, compare the accepted inventory and deliverables with what happened. Preserve the dated permission record, actual publication links and measurement limits. If you need help choosing campaign measures, the existing YouTube influencer ROI guide discusses the measurement question; it does not establish esports league returns or guaranteed sponsor ROI.
Once you can explain the permitted offer, research a small number of relevant companies. Look for a concrete fit between their products and your planned work. Use available sources and business routes; a past sponsorship, product category or job title alone does not prove an open budget or current interest.
Mysocial can help research companies and roles, retain the prospects you approve and keep notes with the relationship. Its relationship management supports that next step. Review source freshness and contact confidence, confirm the offer with the actual parties, and handle the conversation yourself. Research consumes the applicable allowance; it does not grant rights, send the pitch or execute a sponsorship.
